Meeting with the representatives of the European Commission and the United Nation’s Development Program“The human rights defenders should provide the grounds for the unity of all human beings throughout the world.”
“All defenders of human rights should try to provide the grounds for the unity of all human beings throughout the world, and not merely for regional alliances.” Stating this in a meeting with the representatives of the European Commission and the United Nation’s Development Program, Grand Ayatollah Saanei declared, “One of the best ways of establishing unity among human beings is to make the oppressors known to the world since they are the origins and causes of disputes and conflicts among human beings. Oppressors want to prevent the world from hearing the cries of the oppressed so that they can keep on oppressing people easily and cold-bloodedly.” His Honor added, “Whenever there is a conflict, the oppressed are helpless; so, we have to not only defend the oppressed but also support and reinforce all those people who defend their rights, and even if such defenders of the oppressed pass away, we have to promote and disseminate their anti-oppression thoughts.” Pointing out Imam Khomeini’s anti-oppression thoughts, the late Imam’s intellectual disciple then added, “Unfortunately, when Imam Khomeini advised the Shah (the king of Iran before the Islamic revolution) to sever the relations with the Zionist regime in defense of the oppressed nation and the Muslims of the occupied Palestine, many of the power holders of the time supported the Shah but not the late Imam, and he was imprisoned. And when, in 1963, he gave a speech raising an objection to the immunity of the US advisors in Iran, they decided to send him into exile.” His Honor continued, “Although such thoughts were less attended in the world in the past, they are fortunately yielding good results. Today, in most countries, it is no more possible to imprison the peace defenders, oppression is detested in human society, and no one would be proud of keeping political prisoners, and if they had any political prisoners, they would deny and refuse to divulge that.
“Another way of establishing unity among human beings and nations is the power holders’ clarification of their affairs concerning the society”, Grand Ayatollah Saanei added. His Eminence continued, “The more we manage to encourage honesty and truthfulness in the power holders, the closer we will get to unity as our target. Even the most serious conflicts between countries will be settled through clarifications made by the sides.”
“When ruling systems are basically required to act through clarification of the affairs, people will oppose the ones which act contrary to this foundation”, His Honor declared. Expressing this He added, “I believe there must be a specific court for those power holders who lie to their people and do them injustice in this way, just as there is an international court for war crime trials.”
“The third way of establishing unity among human beings and nations” He continued, “is that oppressors apologize to the nations they have oppressed, and that they avoid oppressing nations evermore.”
“We hope for a day when this human beings’ state of being oppressed ends, a day when there is no oppression, no insult, and no humiliation. Based on our beliefs such a day will come along at the time of the advent of the His Holiness Imam Mahdi (May God Hasten His Advent)”, His Eminence said.
Stating that the prerequisites and signs of the advent of His Holiness Imam Mahdi (May God Hasten His Advent) are being realized His Honor declared, “We hope the promised day arrives soon, and that we, as members of human society, can serve humanity throughout the world, and I am sure the purity and sacredness of the late Imam Khomeini and the martyrs’ blood yield such a result.”
In the end, stressing the importance of such meetings His Honor asserted, “If oppressors manage to ban such meetings or to limit and censor them someday, that day will be the day of misfortune, tyranny, and oppression for humanity and it will hopefully not come along.”
After Grand Ayatollah Saanei’s speech, Mr. Jermi Nagoda, the head of the Office of Aids of the European Commission addressed His Eminence and said, “We are so glad to meet you and based on your words I conclude that for the unity of nations, we must refer to the philosophical foundations of universality principles such as the principle of equality of nations and the principle of non-discrimination which exist in both Islam and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights so that we can overcome the difficulties and settle the disputes.” In another part of His speech, Mr. Nagoda expounded the purposes of his visit to Iran.Date: 2008/09/28 Views: 7480
